Blue Orthodontics offers braces in Scottsdale at our Bell Road office, east of Tatum Boulevard. Dr. Dan Blue, a dual-trained orthodontist and prosthodontist, designs each braces plan around your whole smile, not only your teeth. Who is the orthodontist for braces at our Scottsdale office?
Dr. Dan Blue, DDS, MS, is the orthodontist who plans and oversees braces treatment at our Scottsdale office. His training spans two dental specialties, orthodontics and prosthodontics.
Dr. Blue earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, a Master of Science and a prosthodontic certificate from Baylor College of Dentistry. He completed his orthodontic certificate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and he’s a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.
Why does the second specialty matter for braces? Prosthodontists focus on how teeth look and function together once treatment ends. So when Dr. Blue plans your braces, he’s thinking about your gumline, the length of your front teeth and how your lips rest, too.
What makes today’s braces different from the braces you remember?
Today’s braces are smaller, more comfortable and more efficient than the braces most parents wore as kids. They also come in three styles, so you get a say in how they look.
- Fewer bands. We regularly avoid metal bands that wrap all the way around teeth.
- Smarter wires. Advanced wire compositions and bracket dimensions keep teeth moving efficiently.
- Style choices. You can pick silver, gold or tooth-colored brackets.
- Shorter timelines. Most patients who follow instructions finish comprehensive treatment in 12 months or less.
That last point is a big one. If you pictured years in braces, you’ll likely finish much sooner than you expect.
Braces or clear aligners: which fits you better?
Braces are a great fit if you want treatment that works full time with nothing to remove. Clear aligners suit people who want a removable, nearly invisible option and can wear their trays consistently.
| Feature | Braces | Clear aligners |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Brackets and wires stay on your teeth | Removable clear trays you swap on a schedule |
| Look | Silver, gold or tooth-colored | Nearly invisible |
| Daily effort | Brush and floss around brackets | Wear trays most of the day and keep them clean |
| Eating | Skip hard and sticky foods | Take trays out to eat |
| Best for | Kids, teens and adults who want a set-it-and-forget-it option | Teens and adults who want a removable option |
Both options can straighten teeth and improve your bite. Dr. Blue will tell you honestly which one suits your case. For a deeper look at aligners, visit our clear aligners in Scottsdale page.

- Talk through options. We’ll explain whether braces, clear aligners or no treatment at all makes sense for you.
- Review cost and timing. You’ll leave with a clear picture of your fee, insurance and timeline.
Yes, no treatment is always one of the options. If your teeth are healthy and you love your smile, we’ll tell you.
How do braces fit into a busy Scottsdale family schedule?
Braces fit busy schedules well because most visits take 20 to 30 minutes and happen about every two months. That’s roughly six short visits a year.
Our Scottsdale office is open Tuesday through Friday, with early 7:30 a.m. starts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Those early appointments can make it easier to fit a visit in before school or work.
We’re proud to support Paradise Valley School District, along with many other schools and events across the Valley. Our giving consistently tops $150,000 a year, and it’s a big part of who we are.
Got a little one who isn’t 8 yet? Our Kids’ Club keeps younger siblings in the loop with drawings for prizes and gifts until they’re ready for a consultation.
Are you ever too old for braces?
No, you’re never too old for braces, and we see patients up to age 108. Plenty of adults choose braces to fix crowding, gaps or a bite that has shifted over the years.
Tooth-colored brackets blend in at the office. And if you’re planning dental work like crowns or veneers, Dr. Blue can coordinate your braces plan with your dentist so your teeth sit in the best position first.
How do insurance and payment work at our Scottsdale office?
We participate with most insurance plans and work with your insurance to help make treatment affordable. You’ll see your full cost in writing before you commit.
We’ll go over your fee, benefits and payment choices at your consultation. Current patients can make payments through the portal on our patient resources page.
